 Box 1:

"She dreamed of a place unknown, where every smile looked real"

I introduce the main character and her dream. The story is told in third person and past tense, which creates a sense of distance and reflection. The focus is on idealized version of a dream job - a place that looks perfect from the outside.

The purpose of this box is to establish the illusion - a dream that looks valuable and desirable, like gold. However, subtle hints imply that something might not be quite right.

Box 2:

"She stands in a room she once dreamed about, Where every bright promise comes with a price"

In the second box the story moves into present tense, bringing the listener closer to the moment when the dream comes true. The character reaches the world she imagined.

The section describes the fulfilment of a dream, but also the cost behind it. The place still appears perfect, but the tone begins to shift. Lines could suggest that maintaining this dream requires sacrifices, pressure, or losing parts of herself.

The purpose of this box is to show the turning point.

Box 3:

"One day she'll learn what the glitter was hiding

A crown forged from fool's gold"

In the third box, the narrative shifts into future tense, reflecting what the character will eventually understand.

This sections answers the central metaphor of the song: what "Fool's gold" actually is. The dream she chased looked precious, but in the end was only shining illusion.

The purpose of this box is to deliver the lesson and emotional resolution of the song. That sometimes what looks like success or happiness from the outside can turn out to be empty.

She walks the halls she once believed
Where every promise feels achieved
A steady smile, a practiced role
She’s learned to play the part they sold

It glitters, then it breaks
Every promise bends and shakes
Too bright, too cold
It’s fool’s gold

модул 4:

Fellow students will evaluate your assignment based on the criteria below. Use them as a checklist in reviewing your own work:

  • The title moves well through the boxes and gains more meaning each time.

  • The most important idea (the why of the song) appears in the last box.

  • Each box contributes a further development of the title clearly.

  • The worksheet uses several rhyme types for each key word.

  • The rhyme schemes of each verse are the same.

  • The number of lines in each verse is the same.

  • The rhythms of the verse lines match from verse to verse (line 1 of verse one with line 1 of verse 2, etc.).

  • The lyric rhythm and melodic rhythms match.

  • The melodic rhythm places the most important ideas in the strongest positions.

  • The melody creates contrast between different sections, e.g., verse/chorus, verse/bridge, etc.

  • The melody uses stable and unstable tones to create prosody.

hanging of the edge...

Remember that night at the gas station
Cheap wine and bad conversation
You said “I climb when I can’t sleep”
“Come lose your mind somewhere with me”

Hanging off the edge again
You don’t tell me to pretend
You just sing so I can breathe
Stay right here on the edge with me

Now we’re halfway up, hands shaking
Chalk on skin and lines we’re tracing
You don’t rush me when I freeze
Just say “breathe” and look at me

Hanging off the edge again
You don’t need me to pretend
You just stay, you never go
You’ve been hanging here before

If I slip, you don’t look away
You just stay, you always stay

Hanging off the edge again
You don’t need me to pretend
You just stay, you never go
You’ve been hanging here before
